If you read the book The Red Badge of Courage, you should also read the view of life of a Confederate soldier. The author has wit and insight into a private’s view of war. He is a good storyteller also. Probably all officers should read it too; a view they wouldn’t have. Both of my great grandfathers were probably on the same battlefields at the same time on opposite sides. A TREMENDOUS ACCOUNT OF THE CIVIL WAR BY A PERSON EXPERIENCING IT. I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL IN COLUMBIA, TN (MAURY COUNTY), SO APPRECIATED IT MORE. RICHARD E. TUMBLIN
I had been looking for a book about a real person that fought and survived the Civil War and Company Aytch was perfect. I love history and this book is now one of my favorites.
One of the best books you'll ever read from the soldier's perspective. Filled with hard truth and humor, it is a must read for any civil war buff.
For those who want a first hand account of life of a common soldier during the Civil War, Co. Aytch fills the bill nicely. Very little in honor and glory, and much in hardships, deprivations, and death. It is a very realistic view of the times.
I bought this as a Christmas gift that my son requested. He has enjoyed it very much. It is full of first hand information and the book is frequently referred by leading authors of the Civil War, especially, I believe my son said, Shelby Foote. He was also surprised and enjoyed the author's sense of humor.
